Basics for getting started with Jewellery Making

Getting started with jewellery making using beads can be fun and creative!

Here’s a list of basic supplies you'll need to begin beading jewellery like bracelets, necklaces, or earrings:

Essential Tools

Round-nose pliers – For making loops and curves.

Chain-nose pliers – For gripping, bending, and tucking wire ends.

Wire cutters – For cutting beading wire, headpins, or soft metal.

Bead mat or tray – To prevent beads from rolling away.

Ruler or measuring tape – To size your pieces accurately.

Basic Materials

Beads – Glass, acrylic, gemstone, wood, seed beads – choose what suits your style.

Beading wire or thread – for example, Nylon-coated wire (like Beadalon or Soft Flex) – good for bracelets/necklaces.

Elastic cord – for stretch bracelets.

Nylon thread – for seed bead weaving.

Crimp beads – To finish and secure the ends of beading wire.

Clasps – Lobster, toggle, or magnetic closures for bracelets and necklaces.

Jump rings or split rings – To attach clasps or charms.

Headpins and eyepins – For making bead dangles or earrings.

Earring findings – Like fishhooks or studs.

Optional but Helpful:

Storage box or containers – To organize beads and findings.

Bead design board – To plan out necklace/bracelet lengths and patterns.

Needles – Especially for smaller seed beads or bead weaving.

Starter Tip:

Start with a small project like a bracelet or pair of earrings. It’s a great way to learn techniques like crimping, attaching clasps, or working with headpins without needing a ton of materials.
