How to use crimps to make spaces in jewellery

There are various ways that you can add detail to a piece of jewellery, be that with statement beads, different spacer beads or by making spaces between beads.

Leaving spaces between beads can have a decorative affect. If you are using a clear thread it can appear that the beads are floating, whereas if you have a nice colourful wire, it can add extra colour to your design.

To get this affect using crimps, select the colour and size crimp you would like to use as these too add detail to the overall design. I would suggest using 1mm crimp beads in your chosen colour as they won’t protrude too much past the beads.

Start in the middle of your bracelet or necklace and work outwards either side from there. Add a crimp bead and crimp, followed by the bead(s) you want, followed by another crimp. Using a ruler, measure how big a gap you want, add a crimp and repeat the step described above. Continue this pattern completing one side at a time to ensure balance. Finish the necklace or bracelet with a callot to hide the crimp and give a neat finish.
