Toggle clasps are one of the easiest and most stylish closures you can use in jewellery making and come in a wide range of styles, designs and metal types. A toggle clasp consists of two parts, the T-bar and the ring.
Use a toggle clasp in the same way as any other type of clasp you’d use in jewellery making with crimps and thread.
Top tips for using toggle clasps:
Consider weight: Toggles work best with medium-to-heavy jewellery (gravity helps keep them closed). Very light pieces might slip open.
Design feature: Toggles often come in decorative shapes (hearts, flowers, geometric). They can become a focal point rather than just a closure.
Accessibility: They’re easier to fasten than lobster clasps—great for bracelets where you need to close it one-handed.
When attaching the T-bar end of the toggle clasp to the end of the necklace or bracelet, ensure you use beads that will fit through the ring part for closure.
